Full Porcelain Bridges

What Are Full Porcelain Bridges And How Do They Work?

A bridge is a dental prosthetic that fills the gap made by a missing tooth. Bridges, which are cemented and cannot be removed the way dentures can, serve to prevent the nearby teeth from shifting because of the void and thereby being misaligned. In short, when you find yourself with a missing tooth, you either opt for dentures or the relatively more permanent bridge.

Full Porcelain Bridges: How Do Bridges Work?

Bridges serve obvious aesthetic purposes. But aside from these, they also prevent certain gum diseases as well as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, which frequently result when gaps left by missing teeth are not filled in properly. If a person does not immediately decide to have the gap filled, either by a denture or a bridge, the gap could end up as a virtual trap for food bits which tend to get stuck into the void.

Dentists trim the teeth located in between the gap in order to make ample room for the bridge. The bridge is then fitted to keep the teeth well aligned. You must note, however, that you need to have good teeth alignment for the bridge to be easily fitted. Otherwise, a more thorough dental procedure may be undertaken to correct such alignment.

What Are Full Porcelain Bridges?

Porcelain is one of the more recommended materials to use for bridges, since it can be customised to match the colour of your teeth.

Depending on the cost, the location of the missing tooth, the function, and other aesthetic considerations, your dentist will assist you in deciding which materials are best for your bridges.

Immediately following the installation of your bridge, shun from chewing hard food such as ice. To ensure the longevity of your bridges, you have to observe proper oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss for good measure. Head to your dentist for regular check-ups, and seek his or her expertise immediately should you feel any pain in your teeth.
